Free VCE General Mathematics Exam Readiness Checklist

A high-level printable self-check for Victorian Year 12 students preparing for General Mathematics Units 3 and 4 assessments. Mark each statement honestly, then use the results to choose the next practice topic.

This independently prepared Skill Align resource reflects the current VCAA General Mathematics topic areas and 2026 examination guidance. It is a high-level revision planner, not an exhaustive syllabus audit or an official VCAA document. Confirm requirements with your school and the current VCAA guidance.

Data analysis

Check whether you can select, calculate, interpret, and communicate—not merely enter values into technology.

analyse association between variables and distinguish association from causation, common response, confounding, or coincidence

Recursion and financial modelling

Focus on first-order recurrence relations, cash-flow direction, timing, and interpretation rather than calculator keystrokes alone.

Matrices

Be ready to connect matrix operations to the meaning of rows, columns, states, transitions, and constraints.

Networks and decision mathematics

A complete solution needs the correct network idea, a traceable method, and an answer tied to the original decision.

find a minimum spanning tree using Prim's algorithm or a shortest path using Dijkstra's algorithm

build activity networks with any required dummy activities and use forward and backward scanning

Exam workflow and checking

Use this section during timed revision as well as immediately before an assessment.

Turn the checklist into a short revision plan

  1. Choose no more than three items marked Practise or Ask.
  2. For an Ask item, review the underlying method and complete one worked example before timed questions.
  3. For a Practise item, complete a small set without notes and record the error type: concept, setup, calculation, interpretation, or checking.
  4. Repeat the same skill on another day. Change it to Ready only when you can explain why the method works.
  5. Finish with mixed questions so topic recognition is practised as well as the calculation.
